Would I ever learn a foreign language?

Learning a foreign language is easier nowadays ,but many students find themselves abandoning the language too early .A student starts off positively, spends long hours in the books or listening to audio programs but soon the student`s brain becomes clogged and discouragement sets in. I am sure that many of us can identify with this. We watch our friends speak fluently or maybe we have a job in the tourist sector so we get excited.

Why do people quit so early ?…..because there is no clear reason why they want to learn the language in the first place. The main question a person should ask themselves is ” why do I need to learn this language”.This is very important because it determines which areas the student would need to focus on .Take for example an Europeanguy who wants to travel to Colombia .He would want to learn Spanish right?, but which areas should interest him most?….he`ll need to learn phrases which relates to travelling, basic greetings, staying at the hotel, ordering at a restaurant,a few phrases that he can converse with the taxi driver, a bit of the slang, etc. With that being the case, it is not crucial to concentrate on the technical construction of the phrases he will be using. Why stress yourself studying preterite and imperfect tenses when you might only have three months to learn it?. In this case he`ll be better off using books for Spanish travellers.

This scenario changes however for the guy who wants to learn a foreign language to use it as his secondary language. He would need to go a bit more in depth with the language. It is compulsory for him to learn proper grammar, spelling and pronunciation. My advise is,”chose the reason why you need the language first”. This would determine which program is best suited for you and ensure your success with whatever program you decide to embark upon.

Regardless of your reason for learning a second language, there is help out there. You don`t have to give up your favourite tv programs , stress out yourself or even contemplate quitting. Thanks to the latest techniques and discoveries which the professionals have discovered, you can now learn languages quicker than you think ,while avoiding many pitfalls that were made before.

I have actually came across books that teaches you how to learn languages with just a few hundred words. Amazing isn`t it?….the technique uses a combination of popular words to build sentences. There are many educational packages available that makes languages exciting to learn . Go ahead and enjoy your new found language , it`s about enjoyment while you achieve your goal.Say goodbye to frustration!.
