Leaving Your Children At Boarding School

You may be dreading leaving your child at a boarding school and you are not alone. parental ties are loosened a little bit all over the country as sons and daughters gain a little bit more independence. Its only natural to be a little worried, after all they may never have been away from home for more than a couple of nights before. What you need to remember however is that your child is probably feeling just as anxious as you are. They will be meeting lots of new and different people and staying somewhere completely alien to them also. Follow these pieces of advise to help everything go smoothly.

Maintain contact. Knowing that they can contact you whenever the need is very reassuring to a child when they are in a new place. Say that you will ring at the same time every evening and keep doing it until they plead you to stop. Send food and gifts. Every now and again, send your son or daughter a nice goody pack. CDs, cloths, sweets…it could be anything. It isn’t even that important what you send to them as it is more about the thought and the reminder you care. Visit whenever invited. If there is a sporting event or produced that has been organised by the school you should make every effort to attend.
